The Quincy Hotel in Enosburg Falls, Vermont was built by the railroad in 1877 to serve business and leisure travelers, famous in the late 19th century for its booming patent-medicine trade. Following a two-year renovation, the hotel welcomes 21st century guests. The hotel has maintained the historic feel but added modern accessibility. There is a covered porte cochere with a ramp leading to the broad porch (very pleasant in warm weather) and the interior, which includes the ground-floor lounge, a guest laundry, and self-service coffee, tea, and snacks.
The Quincy Hotel has 4 one-bedroom suites and 3 two-bedroom suites, each with private modern bath. There is one fully-compliant ADA suite on the ground floor (Room 12), complete with zero-threshold shower and generous space for turning. Also, visitors will find a large elevator providing access to all floors: all the baths in the other suites are accessible through regulation-sized doors and handheld showers with about a 2” lip for those who can transfer. Each room has its own thermostat and ceiling fan. Most beds are full-sized but there is a queen in room 22 and a full-size bed in room 312B.

The best thing about the hotel, in our humble opinion, is its position opposite the Missisquoi Valley Rail Trail (MVRT). You can walk or roll down the ramp, cross one road, and find yourself on a 27-mile-long level and protected trail through fields and past rivers and mountains. No need to get in the car to go to the country! And the MVRT has plans to connect to Vermont’s extensive network of rail trails throughout the state. The trail isn’t paved but it is a hard-packed surface.
For those who enjoy winter sports, the rail trail is open for snowmobiling in the winter months. Enosburg is about 10 miles from the Jay Peak and about 25 miles from Smugglers’ Notch downhill ski resorts. Smugglers’ Notch Resort’s Adaptive Program provides therapeutic recreation for children and adults of all abilities. Winter snowsports experiences are tailored to meet the needs and goals of each individual. Some program participants may benefit from the support of two instructors, while others may be appropriately paired with one instructor. Smugglers’ also offers an inclusion program with its ski and snowboard programs for children, giving the opportunity to socialize with peers while still maintaining the support needed through the adaptive program. Half and full day lessons are available. Smugglers’ adaptive program maintains an inventory of adaptive equipment including mono-skis, bi-skis and a slider. Snowboarding is also available.
