Upon arrival, you will be greeted with a set of stairs leading to the front office to check in but do not be alarmed. At the base of the staircase, within reach from a car window, is a call button that rings in the office notifying them someone with a disability needs assistance outside.* Otherwise, there is a ramp on the left side of the building that leads to the front door of the office. However, unless you can hop up it was apparent that the front office to check-in seems like the front office to check-in is not wheelchair accessible but adaptions have been made. Unless you are able to hop up a 1ft step in the doorway (cause some wheelchair users can!), the office is not accessible so you will have to get their attention from outside. In either case, you can always wait until another guest or employee walks by and then ask him or her to get someone from the office to assist you because you are physically disabled.
*Tip: It is a good idea to call the day before or a few days leading up to your stay and have someone check to make sure the batteries for the call button are working.
For those using manual wheelchairs, one may find it challenging to get around the property easily because it is situated on a slope of a small hill. So whether you are looking to go to the restaurant or bar, visit the spa, or get a snack from the vending machine, traveling up and down a hill is often part of the route. Though getting to the restaurant required accessing such a route, once up the ramp and inside I was pleased with the setup. The bar was at the front of the house with wooden tables at a good height for wheelchairs; no lowered section was at the actual bar. It had a rugged sailor-type feel with a flat-screen broadcasting a professional sports game. A uni-sex bathroom with a wheelchair accessible stall was adjacent to the bar itself. With virtually no separation, the dining room was just beyond the bar and had a completely different décor, which included tablecloths, mood lighting, and an impressive atrium. Both specially prepared menus are delicious. Wine lovers will be able to sample fine wines of the region otherwise the full bar will provide you with what you want.
Every room has an ocean view, flat screen television, telephone, and coffee maker. Five rooms at the Little River Inn have been converted to be handicapped-friendly. However, the room’s rate, accessible amenities, and some room details will vary. All the accessible rooms have a gas or wood-burning fireplace, carpeted floors, and roll-in showers with a hand-held shower nozzle. None have lowered peepholes.
