A trip to the United Kingdom is probably incomplete without enjoying some of the wonderful unspoilt landscapes, and there is nowhere finer than North Devon to enjoy outstanding scenery. Calvert Trust Exmoor sits on the border of Exmoor National Park, near both stunning moorland and pristine beaches, on the edge of the beautiful Wistlandpound Reservoir.

Calvert Trust Exmoor is built on the philosophy of “it’s what you can do that counts”, and exists to enable people with disabilities to experience exciting and enjoyable outdoor activities in an area of exceptional natural beauty.

A holiday at CTE is a fantastic chance to take part in adventurous activities that are often unavailable to a wheelchair user, and it is amazing what you can do! Activities on offer include abseiling, canoeing, climbing, archery, sailing, horse riding, zip wire, carriage driving, kayaking and accessible cycling, all delivered by qualified instructors experienced in working with disabled individuals. The activities are tailored to the specific abilities of each individual, and if you stay for a 7-night break they also offer a day trip out to a local attraction of your choice.

As soon as you arrive you realize that this picturesque site is fully accessible, there’s nowhere you can’t get your wheelchair to go! The main centre building was built in the 1850s, but it has been adapted to allow access everywhere, whilst still retaining its charming Victorian character. There are single, twin and triple rooms, as well as two wheelchair accessible apartments that sleep 4 and another that sleeps 7. All the rooms and apartments have ensuites and roll-in showers, and some rooms also feature H-track ceiling hoists.

They also offer a wide range of specialist equipment so you don’t need to bring it all from home. All sorts of things from mobile hoists to seahorse sand chairs to medicine fridges can be borrowed, free of charge, all part of the award-winning guest experience.

The centre boasts a great restaurant, providing guests with three home-cooked meals a day to give them plenty of energy for all the activities, and the excellent chefs are happy to tailor the menu to cater for allergies & dietary requirements. The apartments can also be booked self-catered if you would prefer to prepare your meals.

The fun doesn’t stop in the evenings either! As well as a bar with table football and pool tables, and the hydrotherapy pool and jacuzzi, every evening the centre provides entertainment ranging from local musicians to karaoke to Exmoor Zoo bringing in creatures of various types to interact with.

A break at Calvert Trust Exmoor in the UK is a unique experience and for many visitors a life-changing one – an experience you will never forget!
