Santa Monica Beach is one of my absolute favorite destinations in the greater Los Angeles area and one that the wheelchair traveler could easily spend a couple of days exploring and enjoying the ambiance and activities of this ocean front city.

The Beach Park runs along a cliff hugging Santa Monica Boulevard and Pacific Ocean Coast and is a lovely place for a stroll. Take advantage of the many restaurants in surrounding blocks or just enjoy the ocean’s crisp breeze and salty air. Located at one end of the park is the famous Santa Monica Pier with carnival rides and games.

The 3rd Street Promenade is a short three blocks from the beach. Open only to pedestrians, the streets and sidewalk is for shoppers and diners for several blocks. You can find all the top name brand stores as well as boutique ones. Street parking can be found around 3rd street but there is also a large parking structure at the end of it.

Main Street is not as busy as 3rd Street but has a lot to offer. Besides restaurants and boutique shops you will find small art galleries and museums. One of my favorite restaurants is called the Galley Restaurant & Bar right on Main Street. It sadly does not have an accessible bathroom but I come prepared or use the Starbucks across the street.
