Located off Highway 1 about 45 minutes north of the San Francisco Airport is the quaint town of Bodega Bay. This coastal destination is a perfect spot for a weekend getaway, secluded enough to fully unwind and enjoy the beautiful calming ambiance of the Pacific Ocean.

Doran Regional Park attracts campers and site-seers for its views of the ocean and lighthouse. A wheelchair accessible walkway runs along a portion of the bay. There is even a ramp down to the beach; however, there is no beach wheelchair. Handicapped parking is available. The Bird Walk Trail can also be accessed at Doran Regional Park by an adjoining trail.

Sonoma Coast State Beach Vista Trail is located a little North of Bodega Bay off the Highway 1 freeway. This trail loops around for a mile surrounded by 272 acres of wildlife, including 2 miles of coastline. Besides the trail, it has wheelchair friendly picnic benches, restrooms, parking, and grab bars on a lookout bench. The Vista Trail is part of Sonoma Coast State Park, which also has more wheelchair friendly trails and attractions.

Anyone who has been to Bodega Bay and even the locals will tell you that “there’s not much to do.” Do not expect to find a strip mall, movie theater, or chain restaurants. Instead, there are two kite and taffy shops, a surf store, and a small grocery market with quality selections. There are a few restaurants, many found in the hotels and others throughout the town North on Highway 101. The Candy & Kites store is a local favorite among the sweet-toothed, The Boat House is a family-operated business serving up fresh seafood. The signature dish is BBQ oysters but there are also tasty items, like fish n’ chip and fish tacos.
