San Francisco Embarcadero Attractions

San Francisco is known for impeccable culinary cuisine, so along the Embarcadero are fantastic restaurants, from the AT&T Park to the Golden Gate Bridge. On either side of Embarcadero Street are paved, level sidewalks but the bay-side one is much wider than the city-side one and a more scenic route.

AT&T Park and McCovey Cove Point, home of the Giants, is right on the water’s edge and the beginning of the Embarcadero in San Francisco. Accessible seats are available at every level and almost every deck, so you can have your choice depending on what you want to pay. You can count on typical ball park food, including yummy garlic fires and polish dogs but also some surprises too, like clam chowder in a bread bowl. Get tickets. The area around AT&T Park is really accessible and can be easily accessed using the public transportation systems BART and MUNI. The MUNI station drops you off right in front of the park. The streets sidewalks are smoothly paved and inside is an easy ride too. One should have not problem getting around though there will be crowds at a baseball game.

Close to the AT&T Park is Pier 40 where you can experience adapted sailing with the Bay Area Association of Disabled Sailors (BAADS). A little further long the Embarcadero, Pier 14 is particularly accessible because it’s paved, which is a lot easier to roll on for someone in a manual wheelchair than a wooden dock a few piers down. From Pier 14 there is a great view of the Bay Bridge.

Near Pier 14  is The Ferry Building. Built in 1898, it was the portal for travelers into San Francisco. Today it remains a bustling marketplace to buy fresh, Bay Area seafood and offer hungry people a fine selection of specialty grocery stores, restaurants, and of course a farmers market. There are a couple of unique merchants selling artisan crafts. Specialty Grocery Stores carry a quality selection of produce, meats, cheese, caviar, bread, olive oil, and more. The Imperial Tea House has hand-crafted, Chinese teas come to San Francisco. Take a breathe and a moment to enjoy the ambiance at this quaint tea house with a warm cup of tea. At The Wine Merchant you will find hand selected wines from local and other CA wineries with a couple of international blends. Come and buy a bottle or side at the wine wine bar and enjoy a flight or a glass. Tsar Nicoulai Caviar Cafe offers sustainable sturgeon caviar produced year round for caviar lovers.

The Exploratorium is a hands-on museum of science, art and human perception found on the Embarcardero. It is designed to spark curiosity—regardless of your age or familiarity with science. Touch, pick up, and tinker with hundreds of exhibits. It is open Tuesday-Sunday from 10am-5pm  and is a great place to take young children.  There is a reduced rate for the physically disabled and if you are traveling with a large group and make a reservation they will also receive a discount, see complete disabled access information.

Further along the San Francisco’s Embarcadero is a pier where you can take a ferry ride over to Alcatraz Island and the world-famous Pier 39, Fisherman’s Wharf and Ghirardelli Square.
