In Portland, Oregon the Tri Met is the wheelchair-friendly light rail public transportation service that makes it easy and convenient to get around just about anywhere in Portland that you want to go to, even to the airport (see map).

In many stations, the Tri Met comes about every twenty minutes. For the wheelchair traveler, the accessible doors to the Tri Met are clearly marked to be accessible by a button with the universal wheelchair symbol. All one has to do is press it and the door automatically opens and a ramp comes out. Inside there is a space designated for wheelchairs and other handicapped people, including a large button to notify the driver when you are at your stop and the ramp is needed.
