Guests arrive at the main building, which houses the check-in desk. The desk features a lowered section to accommodate wheelchair users, ensuring a welcoming and accessible experience from the start. Doors to the main building are not automatic.
The resort offers accessible parking spots distributed throughout the property, ensuring convenient access to key areas. However, some accommodations, such as the West Meadows suites, require crossing a bridge and navigating slight inclines. Guests should be aware that the resort’s shuttle service consists of golf carts, which are not wheelchair accessible. Travelers using wheelchairs or mobility aids should plan accordingly and contact the resort for assistance with luggage or alternative arrangements.
Accommodations
The resort features over seventy guest rooms and suites, many of which boast private balconies or patios with mineral spring hot tubs. A few rooms are specifically designed for wheelchair accessibility, each offering unique features to cater to different needs.
The Standard King – Accessible – Dog Friendly room #302 is a first-floor studio with a two-seat sofa. The bathroom is equipped with handrails, a roll-up sink, and a zero-threshold shower with a handheld showerhead and mounted bench. Guests can also enjoy a private enclosed patio with a pre-filled mineral hot tub equipped with a remote-controlled lift. This room includes a fireplace, complimentary bottled water, a coffee maker, and refrigerator. Additionally, it is dog-friendly, offering water bowls, a dog toy, and dog beds. The the air thermostat is lowered, and accessible parking is conveniently located adjacent to the room. A microwave is available upon request.
For a more spacious experience, the One-Bedroom King Spa Suite – Accessible – Dog Friendly is located in the “West Meadows” nature preserve and features a separate living room and bedroom with a king bed. This suite includes a roll-in shower with a built-in seat, handrails, an accessible sink, and a zero-threshold entry with a handheld showerhead. The suite also boasts a private balcony with a mineral water hot tub equipped with a lift, accessible from both the bedroom and living room. Unlike the Standard King, this suite has air conditioning and heating, ensuring comfort year-round. The dog-friendly amenities are the same as those offered in the Standard King Accessible room.
To access the West Meadows suites, guests must cross a bridge that leads to this more secluded area of the resort. Since the golf cart shuttle is not wheelchair accessible, travelers with mobility concerns should ensure they have independent access across the bridge or reach out to staff for luggage assistance.
The resort also offers a Two-Bedroom “Petite Spa Suite,” which is listed as an accessible accommodation. Room #301 has also been modified for wheelchair access.
Dining and Beer Garden
The on-site Gardens of Avila Restaurant, located in the main building, specializes in fresh and sustainable cuisine, providing guests with a delightful dining experience. The restaurant’s dining room has no stairs and chairs can be removed to ensure guests with wheelchairs are comfortable. A ramp is also available for access to the upstairs banquet spaces.
For a more casual setting, guests can visit the Beer Garden, a scenic outdoor area offering a selection of local craft beers, wines, and a light menu, including pizza from an outdoor stone oven. The Beer Garden is fully accessible and provides a relaxing space to unwind. To access the Beer Garden requires traveling up and over the bridge; the decent into the garden is short and steep (not ADA) and doesn’t have a landing pad. Additionally, the location of the Beer Garden serves as the entry point to the Bob Jones Trail, a paved and wheelchair-accessible path that leads to Avila Beach, offering a beautiful and leisurely route for guests to explore the surrounding nature.
Wellness and Accessible Mineral Hot Tub
Sycamore Mineral Springs places a strong emphasis on wellness, offering several amenities for relaxation and rejuvenation. The resort features a private accessible mineral hot tub at the spa, which includes a lift for guests with mobility challenges. This secluded tub is set in a peaceful environment surrounded by lush greenery, offering a tranquil and restorative experience. Unlike the hillside tubs, which require stairs, this hot tub provides a fully accessible way to enjoy the resort’s famous mineral waters.
The resort also features a large general pool with a lift, ensuring that all guests can safely and comfortably enter and enjoy the water.
Guests can also take part in wellness activities at the resort’s Yoga Dome, which offers classes in yoga, Pilates, and Tai Chi. Additionally, the Secret Garden provides a tranquil space for relaxation and reflection, allowing guests to enjoy nature in a peaceful setting.
Outdoor Spaces and Accessibility
The resort boasts a beautiful grass lawn surrounded by pathways leading to a gazebo, which is accessible via smooth walkways. This area provides an ideal space for guests to relax, enjoy the scenery, or partake in small gatherings and events. The pathways are designed for easy navigation, making it a welcoming area for wheelchair users and guests with mobility concerns.
