A lowered coat rack is located near the barrier-free front door, ensuring these items are within easy reach for guests using wheelchairs. Installing both a standard and lowered peephole at the front door would enhance security and accessibility for wheelchair users.
Living Room and Dining Table
The living room features automatic blinds, allowing guests to adjust natural lighting without needing assistance. The area around the couch is spacious for gathering and entertainment. The dining room table is behind the couch. The middle of the dining room table features cutouts to create more space for wheelchair users. A pathway to the patio door allows wheelchair users to access the outdoor patio.
Kitchen
The kitchen includes a bar-style seating area that is adjacent to the main cooking space, offering a convenient spot for dining or meal preparation. The kitchen features lowered countertops, appliances, and drawers where lightweight dishes, cups, and bowls are stored. The layout is open for wheelchair users. Essential food items, such as cooking oil and syrup, are stored in an accessible pantry, allowing for more efficient use of the space.
Bedrooms (4 total)
The rental provides a variety of bed options, including two rooms with a queen-sized, one king-sized, and a room with two twin beds, accommodating different guest needs. The one with the king bed and one of the queens have wider doors (36 inches) the other two rooms are 32 inches. Conveniently, a portable Hoyer lift is provided by the rental and can be used with all beds and fits through all of the doors. Remote-controlled blinds are suggested for the bedrooms to add further convenience, although they are not currently installed.
Bathrooms (3 total)
There is one wheelchair-accessible bathroom that is not attached to a bedroom. This bathroom is equipped with a roll-in shower, grab bars, and a portable shower chair. However, a mounted shower bench is a recommended improvement for greater security. A lowered towel rack is installed in the bathroom, making it easy to access towels from a wheelchair. The sink in the accessible bathroom is roll-under, but has a barrier that makes it somewhat difficult to reach. Adding a shelf in the shower would improve convenience for storing personal items like razors or toiletries. One of the other bathrooms includes both a shower and bathtub and the other has a a bathtub.
Washer + Dryer
The rental home includes multiple front-loading washers and dryers, which are positioned at a convenient height for wheelchair users. These are located in their own room off the main living area for easy access and convenience.
Outdoor Space
The patio features a picnic table with extended ends, designed to accommodate a wheelchair at either end. Adding patio blinds would provide more shade and privacy for outdoor meals and relaxation.
Garage + Recreation
The garage offers ample space for parking and turning a wheelchair-accessible vehicle. A barrier-free entrance ensures that there are no steps or other obstacles blocking access inside. The garage also features a ping-pong table, making it a fun recreational space for guests.
